Hello Cricket Families!
There are LOTS of SCARY good things happening at South this month! From exciting school events and celebrations to community activities, October is shaping up to be a fun-filled month for our Crickets!
The weather will soon have surprises in store for us. As the weather begins to change and temperatures become cooler, please remember to dress your child for changing temperatures and conditions throughout the day. Mornings may be chilly while afternoons can still be warm, so layers are a great option! Please also consider sending your child to school with a jacket or sweatshirt each day so they are comfortable and prepared for whatever the fall weather brings.
A reminder that school the doors open at 8:40 AM and daily classes start at 8:45 AM. Arrival after 8:50 AM will require an adult to sign in their student at the front desk.
Every Day Counts!
Regular attendance is an important part of student success, and we want to see our students in school whenever they are able. Unless your child has a fever or is vomiting, please send them to school; if they aren’t feeling well, our school nurse will evaluate them and determine if they need to go home.
Cricket Convention
We had our first monthly Cricket Convention this week! We celebrated student attendance and introduced our character trait of the month: PERSEVERANCE. I like to call it “stick-to-it-ivness” — the ability to keep going, even when things get difficult or a task feels challenging.
Hat Day was also a big success! Students did not need to make a donation to participate, but our South School community collected $80, which was donated to Forever Paws in Fall River. We will hold a Hat Day each month, with the proceeds going toward meaningful causes in our community.
Our PTO will also be hosting a Book Fair October 28th–30th! On Friday, October 30th, we will hold our Book Character Parade beginning at 2:00 PM, and parents are encouraged to attend! Students may come to school dressed as a character from a book. Please make sure costumes allow students to independently get in and out of the costume to use the bathroom. For safety reasons, no face coverings, masks, face paint, or makeup will be permitted.
Dismissal will begin at 3:15 PM, and the PTO Book Fair will remain open after school so families can visit and shop together. We are looking forward to a fun celebration of reading!
