Dear Parents/Guardians,
The starting line is getting closer! Only ONE MORE WEEK until school begins for students in grades 1-5 (September 2nd, doors open at 8:40 AM)! We're looking forward to our annual Popsicles With the Principals, which will be held on August 31st from 3:00-4 PM, and our new student orientation (for any new students in grades 1-5) will take place on the same day from 4:15-5:00.
At our annual Popsicles With the Principals, funded by the South Schoo PTO, students will be able to see who their teacher will be for the upcoming school year, as well as meet with some of their friends (or make new ones!) that they haven't seen for a while.
Speaking of new friends, I'd like to take a moment to introduce myself to the South School community;
I am excited and honored to join the South Elementary School community as principal for the upcoming school year. I have spent my career in education in a variety of roles, including eight years as a middle school assistant principal and principal in another district and, most recently, serving as an assistant principal in Somerset while also teaching elementary technology. I've been working in Somerset for seven years now, and two years ago I had the opportunity to teach technology at South one day each week, so I am especially happy to return to a school community that is already somewhat familiar to me. I am also proud to be an Army veteran and a resident of Somerset, and I value the opportunity to serve the community where I live. I believe that strong schools are built on strong relationships, and I look forward to getting to know our students, families, and staff while working together to create a school where every child feels known, supported, challenged, and excited to learn. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve South and look forward to a wonderful year together.
